GPAC Men's Honor

Kale Wiertzema of Northwestern College, shown here in recent action, has been selected as the Great Plains Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year. The 6-3 senior guard from Hills, Minn., led the league in scoring with an average of 19.3 points per game for the Red Raiders. He scored in double figures in 25 games in the season just finished. He ranked in the top 10 in free-throw percentage at 80 percent, assists with 94, three pointers with 52, three-point percentage at 40 percent and steals with 42. He is 13th all-time scorer for the Raiders, with 1,576 points, tied for ninth with 158 three pointers and 10th for assists with 376. He was named to the GPAC all-conference second team in 2008 and named to the national tournament all-tournament team in 2007.
