A shiny visor helped a Pipestone, Minn., guard member put the finishing touches on her makeup on Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Dutchmen Field Championships on Korver Field in Orange City. At the conclusion of the day, band members crowded the field as the annual fireworks show entertained. The Pride of the Dutchmen, said POD director Steve Connell, performed "very well" at the closing of the event. "Some areas of the performance were the best of the year. The guard was outstanding, and the musical performance was first rate." Mitchell won the 3A percussion award, Madison the guard award and Spirit Lake the drum major award. The POD next competes in the Quad State Field Competition in Vermillion, S.D., on Saturday, Oct. 15.
